Elevate Denver Bond
Program to Accelerate Bikeway
Installations Citywide
Eight Public Meetings
Planned in April/May
DENVER – With the goal of making bicycling in Denver a safe and viable transportation option for people of all abilities, the city will be installing 125 miles of new bikeways over the next five years, increasing the number households within a 5-minute ride of a high-comfort bike facility from 38 to 75 percent. 50 of the 125 miles of new bikeways will be funded by $18M from the Elevate Denver Bond, approved by voters in 2017. “Our city’s transportation future must offer everyone more ways to get around using different modes, and improving mobility equity and options for every resident makes everyone’s commute easier,” Mayor Michael B. Hancock said. “The people of Denver overwhelmingly said ‘yes’ to supporting more mobility options for people to choose from to move about our city, and we are primed and ready to get moving on delivering more high comfort bikeways in neighborhoods that need more options.” Public meetings are planned in April and May to educate residents about eight (8) high-comfort, bond-funded bikeways that will be installed in 2020 that will add about 9 miles of bikeways to the city’s network. The first meeting is this Wednesday, April 24, in Green Valley Ranch. Other meeting locations and times are listed below and at www.denvergov.org/bikeprogram. The high comfort bikeways will provide:
“We are excited to have additional funding for better and more comfortable bikeways in Denver and to begin to move the needle on the number of people who can get around by bike,” said Eulois Cleckley, Executive Director of Denver Public Works. “We encourage the city’s residents to engage with us at these open houses and provide input on how we can best tailor the projects to their communities.”
