Dear Neighbors:
The Denver Emergency
Communications Center (Denver 911) has applied to the Colorado Public Utilities
Commission (PUC) for approval to increase the current monthly 911 surcharge
applied to all phone lines effective November 1, 2018.
The request is that the 911
surcharge will increase from its current rate of $0.70 to $1.20.
This increase is necessary to
meet national standards and to ensure Denver 911 has the staff and the
resources to manage the projected increase in call volumes due to Denver’s
rapid population growth. There were approximately 950,000 calls to 911 in 2017
and by 2022, it is expected that Denver 911 will field almost 1.1 million
calls.
The 911 surcharge in the city
and county of Denver has not increased in 20 years. The increase, $6.00 annually
per phone line, is consistent with 911 charges across the county and will
ensure Denver 911 will be able to meet the needs of the community for years to
come.
Anyone may file written
comments or objections concerning this request with PUC by August 20, 2018.
These can be filed in person at the PUC office located at 1560 Broadway, Suite
250, Denver Colorado 80202 or by email at puc@dora.state.co.us.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Respectfully,
|
