Denveright Task Forces Announced
Groups will guide four citywide planning efforts
focused on land use, mobility,
parks and recreational resources
DENVER – The City and
County of Denver today announced the members of four citizen task forces that
will advise on the key principles and policy recommendations of the four plans
that comprise Denveright, a community-driven multi-agency planning initiative
that will establish a vision for Denver for the next 20 years.
“The dedicated residents and stakeholders who have agreed to
serve on these task forces will help ensure that we hear from every part of
town and every segment of our population about how our community should evolve,
“ Mayor Michael B. Hancock said. “They represent the diverse fabric of our
community, and their voices will advise on the needs and priorities of these
planning efforts.”
Denveright will shape Denver’s
future in the areas of land use, mobility, parks and recreational resources by
coordinating, for the first time, the planning processes for:
·
an update of Blueprint Denver, the 2002
citywide land use and transportation plan
·
an update of The Game Plan, the
2003 citywide parks and recreation master plan
·
Denver Moves: Transit, a new mobility
plan for transit in Denver
·
Denver Moves: Pedestrians and Trails, a
new mobility plan for sidewalks, crossings and trails
Task force appointees were
selected by city leadership to represent a broad range of perspectives, with
particular consideration given to ensuring diversity in expertise, geography,
culture, ethnicity, age and gender. Each task force includes neighborhood
representatives from six areas of the city (central, northeast, far northeast, northwest,
southeast and southwest); members of the Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation (INC);
one member from each of the Mayor’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committees;
two city council members; representatives from the business community, aging
populations, youth and those with disabilities; and members with interest in
sustainability, preservation, and civic and community health.
The task forces will play a key
role in vetting the principles and policy recommendations of each plan. They
will also help shape community outreach approaches and informing the
decision-making processes. Task force members will also be responsible for
sharing plan information with the communities they represent and gathering
feedback from the public.
Each task force will begin
meeting this summer. Meetings will regularly occur for the duration of the
planning processes, which are expected to run approximately 18-24 months.
Meeting information will be available at denvergov.org/denveright.
Denveright is a community-driven
process from start to finish. In addition to the plan-specific task forces, the
Denveright Community Think Tank will provide a forum for community leaders to
have a say in the planning process and share thoughts and ideas on important
topics that cut across all four plans. Anyone interested can apply at denvergov.org/denveright.
Applications are due Friday, June 24.
Community members can share
ideas online or participate in community workshops. Community members will also
see and interact with Denveright at numerous community events. All are invited
to join the conversation via the hashtag #denveright on Instagram, Twitter and
Facebook. For more information about Denveright and how to get involved, visit denvergov.org/denveright.
